Flamingo Friday: Moving Parts

Certainly I enjoy the thrill of capturing an image of the whole of an animal in a brief moment of crystal-sharp stillness, while they scent the air or cock their heads or turn their eyes on me. But there’s also something thrilling about capturing action itself, catching not so much a moment as a movement.

Flamingos are good subjects for these sorts of shots, since they’re sufficiently active as to provide good fodder for the camera (so to speak) without being so frenetic as to drive a would-be photographer mad (not that I’m pointing any fingers at the elephant shrew).

And, better yet, they’re so dramatic—one might even say melodramatic—in their passions and gestures that a glance at even a portion of the action is enough to suggest an entire soap-opera’s worth of stories.

[By the way, and unrelated to flamingos, you can find the link to one of my older posts, along with links to many other fascinating invertebrate posts, at this month's Circus of the Spineless.]

{A note: I do write all text and take all pictures. Please do not reproduce either without my permission.}

Those wings! Those wings! I want an outfit in those colors (but no feathers, please).
