Assuming it's native to North America, I have a guess. But, not after looking up a MUCH larger Chinese native. Phew! However, I'll wait, so as to share & share alike. =)

I think biobabbler knew it! It's a Hellbender, an enormous North American salamander (although, as biobabbler observed, its Chinese cousins are waaay bigger).
