What I like most are those eyes,
disks wide as the full moon,
twin Os that open on the darkness
of deep water.

This is probably what resulted in the myth of mermaids. Heck--maybe sailors mated with sealions and that's how mermaids were born.
I'm a little concerned about that idea from a biological as well as...ethical?...perspective, but, hey, if sailors thought manatees were mermaids, then who knows what went on at sea.
