Patti, I once watched a gull open a potato-chip bag and eat the contents. I'm waiting for the day they figure out how to unlock beach-goers' phones and perpetrate identity theft.
Just to be clear: I don't work at the National Zoo--I just live near it. I'm originally from Detroit, most recently from Boston (where I got my Ph.D. in biology from Tufts University), and am now living in Washington, DC.

I can see laughing, and ring-billed, and herring, I think. Anything else you saw?
I'm pretty sure there were some black-backeds there, but they didn't get in the picture.
Nice. Looks like fun. =)
The gulls here are amazing. If you leave any food for a second, they have it. Even food in bags tightly closed.
It was most fun for Earnestine (the dog), who in spite of her leash was convinced she could and should chase each and every gull out there.
