Your endless collection of stunning flamingo photos is amazing... I just wanted to let you know that Porphyry is thriving. As the smallest member of Koppiekats group, he's turning into a real character. The mornings here are now glove-cold and I glanced down yesterday to find him lying spread-eagled over my thermos flask of hot tea!
Just to be clear: I don't work at the National Zoo--I just live near it. I'm originally from Detroit, most recently from Boston (where I got my Ph.D. in biology from Tufts University), and am now living in Washington, DC.

I never realized the beak is as amazing in its color range as the rest of the flamingo!

Thanks so much for the update on Porphyry, Lynda! How great to hear that he's doing well and being so inventive in his response to the chill weather!
